I am the national programme manager for the Long Term Conditions Delivery Support team. I began my social work career in 1976 at Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council where I developed an interest for working with long term conditions. I moved to Manchester City Council in 1987 to manage domiciliary and day care services. Between 1981 and 1989 I was a resource centre manager developing outreach work within a 65 bed residential care home for older people. As a team manager with the physical disability service in Manchester I was responsible for the development of sensory impairment services and community equipment services as part of the wider Community Equipment and Adaptations Partnership. I was seconded to the Department of Health in October 2001 as the Director for the National Implementation Team [ICES] where I successfully led the initiative for integrating community equipment services.
I currently manage a network of ten regionally based officers working in areas of service development to support a ‘whole system’s approach’ across the NHS and Local Government interface and the voluntary sector supporting various programmes associated with care service improvements. My areas of interest are service integration, whole systems working and encouraging a power shift to enable beneficiaries to be at the heart of service redesign and development.
