I am the North West regional lead for the LTC Programme. My background is in social work, with wide-ranging experience of working with people of all ages having covered both community and hospital based perspectives over 13 years for Sefton MBC.

In 1999 I moved across to Health, holding positions in a Health Authority and PCT leading joint initiatives and innovative programmes. During this time I was also appointed the North West lead for the Department of Health Integrating Community Equipment Services National Implementation Team.

As a firm believer in joined up working and positive user outcomes, my current role enables me to support local improvement and integration to achieve quality services for the people of the North West.

Although based at home in Southport, I travel across the North West and around the country to assist local services implement Government priorities and champion change.

North West Regional Updates:

July 2010

Things are moving forward in the North West.  Liz Matthews has been identified as the new long term conditions lead at the Strategic Health Authority and combining this with the other excellent working relationship developed with the North West’s Self Care lead, Sue Summers, and John Dean as Clinical Pathway Chair means that the work of the team can move forward at a pace.  The business plan developed has been agreed and as well as containing the team’s commitment to promoting development of services to people with neurological conditions, some specific pieces of work have begun.

The first piece of work has focused on a meeting of clinicians, commissioners, specialist nurses and voluntary organisations from around the region, getting together to consider what is happening in their own local areas and how they can share and learn both from and with each other to deliver high quality services to help meet the efficiency targets being set for the NHS.  The Greater Manchester Neuroscience network will take forward this work identifying their local arrangements and pathways and follow up meetings are to be arranged across the other two North West footprints.

Details of this event, follow up work and updates on other work streams will be available via the North West regional page of our website.

For previous regional updates, please see previous editions of the LTC team briefing document.
